AIRAH is an Australia-wide organisation representing professionals and practitioners working in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) and building services industries.

A not-for-profit organisation, they are recognised by government and industry bodies for advocacy and expertise in the area of engineering services for the built environment.

Designed for professionals and practitioners, the Resilience Checklist discusses technical concepts involved in improving the resilience of buildings and their HVAC systems. The aim of the AIRAH Resilience Checklist is to provide specific HVAC&R guidance and tools to bridge the knowledge gap across the wider industry, improve specialist technical expertise, guide procurement processes when selecting equipment and build industry capability.

The checklist includes an eight-step process for developing a resilience action plan. The steps cover defining a resilience strategy, understanding the future climate, and understanding key risks to buildings. Other steps relate to how to design, engineer, install and manage for resilience. The checklist also explores the concept of “Build Back Better”, a new approach to resilience focusing on implementing positive social change and improving community capacity by viewing resilience not as an outcome but as a process.

Working together with AIRAH and the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, Global IQ Group developed the checklist through research and consultation with industry to encourage a greater focus on resilience in the built environment.

Global IQ Group CEO and Founder, Liza Taylor, had the honour of launching the AIRAH Resilience Checklist at the Future of HVAC 2021 conference. Download a copy of the Resilience Checklist, here.
