March 8 is a global day that acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of women worldwide, whilst raising awareness about discrimination. It is a call to action for accelerating gender diversity and equality.
The theme for IWD 2023 is ‘Embrace Equity’. The goal of this year’s theme is to highlight the importance of working towards a gender-equal world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. It is about working together to Embrace Equity and help eliminate gender bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. Through equity we can encourage harmony and unity, which helps to drive success for us all.
Global IQ Group is passionate about ‘embracing equity’, specifically by improving the number of women in STEM and entrepreneurship. Despite a 46% increase in female business operators over the last 20 years, women still only make up 34% of all Australian business operators, with an incredibly low proportion of women in STEM related fields. Of the Australian STEM workforce, women represent only 28% – with 12.8% of those jobs actually being engineering roles.
Celebrating IWD is extremely important to us as the path to increasing gender diversity within these fields relies heavily on empowering women to enter the field through strong female role models and support.
As a female-owned organisation, Global IQ Group is deeply committed to promoting gender diversity and equal opportunity. Our Director and Co-founder, Liza Taylor, is passionate about promoting women in the industry. As an AIRAH Board member, Liza is heavily involved with the Women of AIRAH, focusing on encouraging gender diversity within the HVAC&R sector. Her re-election to the AIRAH Board for 2021-2023 emphasises this contribution, achieving gender equality across the elected Board positions.
Global IQ Group is also proud to be involved with the Boosting Female Founders Initiative as mentors, helping majority women owned and led businesses establish, grow, and scale their start-ups and to achieve their business objectives. This government initiative is important as it aims to assist women in overcoming not only financial but also network and support barriers when starting their own businesses.
